Events
At Plaka, every late July, there is a two day’s feast with traditional songs and dances, organized to honor the memory of a great lyre player, Mihalis Papadakis or else Plakianos.
On June 20th, we celebrate “Klidonas” which is an old custom, including satyric Cretan love distichs, dances and songs.
A series of cultural events is organized every year in Almyrida: Theatre performances, Greek and international music beach parties and Greek popular music concerts.
Moreover, all near villages organize their own feasts and as a result, many traditional feasts take place in Apokoronas throughout the year. For instance, during the grape gathering, a whole ritual is performed to produce wine and tsikoudia. People also use to stay up, enjoying themselves all night when the Saint of each place is celebrating or when the cultural associations organize special entertaining evenings for their friends.

Bicorna
The small family hotel called Bicorna -which is the wider Venetian name of Apokoronas region- has been run functioned for two years, hosting visitors coming from all parts of the world, Europe in particular from Europe.
It was built five years ago according to all town-planning rules, onto the rocky ground of Apokoronas. Originally it used to be a house, but the owners, the Goustis’ family, considered it to be too selfish just for a family to enjoy the unique beauty of the nature. Therefore, they decided to share this beauty with friends, who appreciate peace, the wonderful environment, the mild climate, the traditional life of a Cretan village as well as the warm and generous hospitality and service.
The six comfortable, furnished rooms which are very carefully and delicately organized, (each one of them provides its own bathroom, over sea view balcony, telephone and radio), are ideal for the stay of the visitors who can enjoy their holidays.

Sunset at Bicorna
The sunset over Souda Bay (the biggest natural port of the Mediterranean) is one of the attractions of the area. The colors of both the horizon and the sea, as well as the direction of the sun from season to season constantly changing, create majestic images.
The Fortresses of the ancient city of “Aptera” and “Itzedin”, dominate over the left situated hills, while exactly opposite the small islands of “Lefke”, decorate the Bay. West of “Aptera”, in front of the well – organized beach of Almyrida and at the inner parts of Souda Bay, there is a small island called “Karga”. All around, catamarans and surf boards, call for unique moments of joy to the sailing fans. The sandy beach of Almyrida, located one kilometer away from the traditional village of Plaka and the Bicorna Hotel, is absolutely clean and safe, gaining the Blue Flag every year.
Special boats make trips to Souda Bay for the visitors to admire and to enjoy swimming in the crystal-blue waters of the Bay.
